Saudi Arms Deal Gone Sour

From Zero Hedge on the 16th:

Following reports that the Kingdom is preparing to admit its role on Khashoggi’s death (the official story: that Khashoggi was killed during an interrogation by rogue killers), Republican lawmakers are stepping up their rhetoric against the kingdom, with several Republican leaders in the Senate saying on Tuesday that the body could move to sanction Saudi Arabia, a policy that would likely find widespread purchase with liberal lawmakers.

From MoA:

The Saudi ambassador to the United States, Prince Khalid bin Salman, left Washington last week, returned to Riyadh and will not be returning, a current and a former American official said on Monday. It was not clear when he might be replaced, or by whom. Prince Khalid is the crown prince’s younger brother.

From Ghassan and Itbah Kadi at The Saker

President Trump is talking about taking severe measures against Saudi Arabia, but not severe enough to cancel the USD 110 Bn arms deal. The mention of the arms deal could well be a hint made by Trump in order to remind the Saudis how reliant they are on America. After all, Saudi Arabia is bogged down in a war with Yemen that etit is unable to win even with America support.

From Russia Today:

The Kremlin has confirmed the sale of the Russian-made S-400 air defense missile system to Saudi Arabia. Experts say this means Riyadh, traditionally a US customer, is looking for military hardware alternatives.

From Voltaire.net:

Jamal Khashoggi was the nephew Adnan Khashoggi (1935-2017). The latter was an arms-trafficker that played a fundamental role in the Iran-Contras case and was considered the richest man in the world at the beginning of the eighties.

From As`ad AbuKhalil at Consortium News:

The real crime was that Khashoggi was backed alone by Ikhwan supporters, namely the Qatari regime and the Turkish government.

From MoA:

Khashoggi started a tussle with the fifteen men we sent to kindly ask him to come home. Unfortunately he stumbled, fell onto the chainsaw and severed his head.

From MoA:

Khashoggi was a personal friend of Erdogan.

From Ghassan Kadi at The Saker:

Hatice Cengiz (Turkish for Khadijeh Jengiz) it is claimed, raised the first alarm for Khashoggi’s disappearance, announcing at the same time that she is/was his fiancée. But that latter announcement of hers came as a surprise even to Khashoggi’s own family…

If Erdogan smells a hint of preparedness of MBS to support Gülen, then Erdogan would want MBS’s wallet and head.

From MoA:

There will be another Senate vote next month to end U.S. complicity in the war on Yemen. It is now likely to pass.

From the comments:

MbS has reneged on a huge Lockheed Martin Arms deal.

From the WaPo:

Despite a 20 percent price cut, the Saudis let a Sept. 30 deadline to lock in the $15 billion purchase of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense anti-ballistic missile system expire without signing on the dotted line.
